Review
This kit comes with everything you need to install it, wire nuts, mounting hardware, and gasket. The installation itself pretty straight forward. There is a metal bracket you attach to the mounting box with a threaded hole in the center. A single bolt goes through the light fixture into the mounting bracket to secure it to the box. The kit even comes with a rubber stopper to put over the screw head giving it a clean appearance once installed. Front of light after installation
Once installed the light has a few settings you can set.
First off you get to choose what ’temperature’ you want the light set to. One of the reasons I bought this light was that 3000k was an option, I have never liked the harsh colors of ‘daylight’ colored bulbs. The options are 3000k, 4000k, and 5000k. There is a little protective flap you open up on the underside of the light to flip a selector switch.
Next you have the option of 3 different lighting modes. Settings under the device
Always on, which does what you would expect.
Next is a dusk to dawn mode, this mode will only come on at night. There is a ’lux’ dial on the device as well that allows you to set at what light levels the light will turn itself off and on. Lastly there is motion sensor mode, this mode will only come on when it detects motion. There are a couple setting within this feature you can set. Firstly, the ’lux’ setting used in dusk to dawn mode also applies here. You can set at what level of darkness you want the motion sensor to work, all the way up for always no matter what, all the way down for only when it’s well and truly dark. You also have the option to set the ’time’ for the motion sensor, this allows you to select how long you’d like the light to stay on after motion is detected. You can go from 5 seconds, to 5 minutes of on time. Lastly there is a ‘range’ setting on the device that lets you decide how close something needs to be in order to trip the motion sensor. The longest distance that the device can detect is around 72ft.
I did seem to struggle adjusting the angle on the lights themselves. I know that other lights use a similar tooth design but I’ve always found this system to be fiddly. The rotation of the lights also felt a bit ‘sloshy’ to me. I’d rotate them into position and it wouldn’t feel like it was going to stick, but it always did. It required a couple tries to really get the lights pointed the way I would like because of this.
Score
With an easy install procedure and good set of features I think buying the JCT 3CCT is an easy decision when trying to buy an affordable outdoor light.
